Washington DC is a place that is known for having an abundance of things to see and do. From visiting the Capitol Building and the White House to strolling around the National Mall, there is so much to experience that you must certainly allow yourself a few days to fully experience it all.
Aside from historical buildings and breathtaking monuments, Washington DC is home to some of the finest museums in the country!
âThe best part about these museums? Admission is totally free of charge! Below, we will explore some of the best museums Washington DC has to offer.
1. The National Air and Space Museum
Like all of its fellow Smithsonian counterparts, the National Air and Space Museum is widely renowned for its fabulous exhibits. Here, you will find the worldâs largest collection of things that fly, which encompasses everything from airplanes to spaceships!
Many people often forget that what is now America was inhabited long before Europeans ever established themselves.
The story of the American Indian tribes was largely swept under the rug for hundreds of years, yet this museum is pivotal in showcasing the glory and history of the indigenous people who remain a viable presence to this day.
âIncorporating artifacts from all tribes from the tip of Southern America to the farthest expanses of the Arctic, this place showcases various native cultures and languages while illustrating how various tribes have evolved into the technological age.
If you visit no other museum while in Washington DC, be sure to make time to visit this one!
Marked by its gorgeous elephant which presides over everything in the lobby, this is a wonderful way to spend the day exploring everything this museum has to offer!
There is everything from dinosaur bones to an ocean exhibit which allows you to explore the mysteries that lie beneath the waves!
âThe Hope Diamond is kept here, as are meteorites and the legendary Star of India! With halls that showcase everything from mammals to birds to various human cultures, including real Egyptian mummies, there is so much to do and see here that you will want to schedule an entire day to roam the hallways!
Without a doubt, this is one of the most sobering, chilling museums you will ever set foot in.
This place is dedicated to the victims and survivors of the Holocaust, which was one of the greatest tragedies to have ever occurred.
The Holocaust involved the systematic extermination of European Jews, gypsies and other targeted groups by the Nazi regime during the 1930âs and 40âs. These doomed souls were rounded up and transported to concentration camps, where they were either immediately executed or subsequently starved, overworked and subjected to disease, torture and many other forms of mistreatment.
The loss of life was absolutely tremendous, with as many as two out of three European Jews losing their lives by the time the last concentration camp was liberated in 1945.
This museum is critically important, as it reminds us of the faces and people that were a part of this tragedy, ensuring that their stories are heard and that we never forget the evil that humankind is capable of. Not only can you read accounts from survivors and victims alike, you will view exhibits which showcase the belongings of the victims which were taken away from them as they entered the concentration camps.
âThe piles of shoes, wedding rings, etc are like a shot to the heart, as you truly begin to grasp how horrifying this period in time truly was.

1. Chicken, Waffles and Watermelon
âYes, this sounds like an odd combination, but you simply must give it a try. The savory, salty flavor of the freshly fried chicken coupled with the sweet tartness from the watermelon all coupled with the delicious waffle creates a flavor profile that works even though you think it will not!
âThis is a classic dish around the Miami area, yet for true perfection, be sure to visit Yardbird Southern Table and Bar at 1600 Lennox Avenue.
